The Gideon Square Homeowners' Association conducts regular monthly Board Meetings every fourth Monday of each month starting at 7:30.  During the school year, meetings are held at the teachers lounge at Garfield High School (Directions).  During summer months, meetings are held at the Gazebo in the neighborhood. Meetings in December and July are typically cancelled due to the holidays and vacations.  Meetings in January and February are usually held on the third Tuesday of the month given the Martin Luther King and President's Day holidays. A sign is posted in the community to remind homeowners of upcoming meetings and announce cancellations.

Highlights of our Last HOA Meeting

The Gideon Square Homeowners' Association held its most recent monthly Board of Directors Meeting at the Garfield High School  teachers lounge on Monday, March 28, 2005. The Association will hold its Annual Meeting  on Monday, May 23rd, 2005 at the Garfield High School  teachers lounge at 7:30 p.m.  All residents are invited to attend and participate.

March Meeting Highlights. The Board of Directors of the Homeowners' Association Discussed several issues including the change of our trash collection company, springtime landscaping improvements, and roadway maintenance. A copy of the minutes of that meeting will be available for download soon.

Key Issues. Progress continues on the master plan endorsed by the Board and homeowners over the last few years.  With completion of the walking path and  installation of three additional street lights along Gideon Drive, homeowners will see the installation of flowers and shrubs in the new beds created near the streetlights and  continued work on the Gazebo renovation.  The Gazebo renovations include a stone retaining wall and landscaping, roof repairs, new shingles, replacement of most of the wood and increasing seating form 2 to 5 benches and the addition of lighting.

The Board voted to delay the installation of a playground near the gazebo as its costs far exceed available resources.

Other issues.  The board further discussed a reserve study completed last fall.   A reserve study advises the board of its short and long term responsibilities concerning the maintenance of common areas. In particular, the Board is provided professional guidance on the condition of its infrastructures, and the anticipated cost of repairing it over the course of it lifetime. Roadway tend to be the major focus of these reports. The Board discussed alternatives to roadway resurfacing and are pursuing bids.

The board also discussed a growing interest in establishing a Neighborhood Watch Program.  Materials received from the County  Police by Mr. Hewitt will be passed along to the tentative coordinator.  The program will be run by volunteers other than the Board, funded by the Board and supervised by the Prince William County Police.  Any resident interested in participating should contact the Board by e-mail or call our Koger Management representative, Bill Booze, at (703) 591-2414.
