This summer, NOVEC will be installing three colonial style streetlights along Bixby Road (illustrated here). Several have already been installed in the darker areas of the community over the past few years. NOVEC has already received payment for the lights and has provided an easement format that will permit the installation.  Once installed, Gideon Square will be charged a flat fee of $8 per month for the electricity the lights use.

As planned, Grassmasters, the community's landscaping contractor, installed a 4 foot wide walking path (illustrated above) that runs from the Prince William Plaza, along Bixby Road to the sidewalk near 2764 Bixby Road (see map, below), and continue down the hill to Bisbee Road. Check out the Year in Pictures Page for shots of the new path.

The Board is also selecting plans for a toddler playground ("tot lot") to be located near the entrance to Gideon Square across from the Gazebo (see map). The project will be funded in part by monies proffered by the Potomac Chase developer during zoning hearings on the Potomac Chase Community in 1998 and 1999. The Gideon Square Board fought the developer very hard, yielding several concessions including the $6000 for the toddler playground. The Board approved an additional $1850 to install the playground box, and an additional $2000 to ensure the neighborhood gets  top-quality playground equipment.
